Since
you punch and kick in Savate , wouldn't it make it the most accident prone sport?
No, according to the National Safety Council's 1999
accident report, amateur savate ranked
48rd on its list of injuries from a
list of 50, number 1 being the most accident prone sport.
Savate ranks
lower in number of injuries when compared to football,
hockey, soccer, gymnastics, basketball, baseball and
in-line skating.
Is amateur savate safer than karate or
other contact sports? Amateur savate is safer since its
rules and regulations are updated to both federal and state safety
guidelines. USA SAVATE goes to great lengths to protect its athletes.
Its sanctioned equipment is to protect the amateur savate
boxer's. Its Officials are taught to respect the sport, as well as that safety is the
number one rule. That fair-play is given to all athletes. Its coaches are
taught that egos due not belong in the ring, as well as that the care and concern of the
athlete in superior to trophies. In addition to these things,
its medical committee has passed it a rule that the savateurs
must undergo both a pre-and post-bout physical,
which is only done in the United States. Making USA SAVATE the safest national
governing body of the ports of Savate in the World.
Why are the tournaments only held in Texas?
Since Savate is a combative sport, each boxing commission
(what regulates combative sports within each and every state), needs to grant
USA Savate permission in order to hold a sanctioned event making it legal . At
this time we are lobbying several states to accept USA SAVATE. It has now
changed since it is legal for USA SAVATE to sanction events held in Illinois and
in California.
How do you pick or choose a USA Team? The USA team is made up of the Champions of the US Nationals each and every year. Where can you get sanctioned equipment? At the present time there is one company that is sanctioned to make the equipment. There are several international companies which have stated that they are sanctioned by USA SAVATE. At this particular time there is one company that is sanctioned and the name of the Manufacture is Ons'eclate Gear™, to contact them at www.savate-equipment.com.
Why is USA SAVATE not part of the International Federation of Savate? At the present time the affiliation is in question due to allegations that the International Federation of Savate pays its Champions in International events: dually making them Pro's. USA SAVATE is not a member and will not become a member until the IFS clears that allegation. The main reason is if a member which competes in any of those events. They loses automatically their amateur status, making them Professional athletes. Again it is USA Savate's duty to protect its Amateur status and that of its members.
